#936 Quote of the day – models.com on Daul Kim

Image /models.com

“We were very saddened today in the office to hear about the tragic death of Daul Kim. Apart from being stunned at the news there’s also a devastating sense that a bright, vivid and intriguing young girl has left us… I’m saddened that her world as a human being became so despairing for her even as we assumed that life must have been magical and glamorous.”

Korean supermodel Daul Kim died yesterday in Paris. Suicide is suspected. She blogged yesterday, in a post titled ‘Say hi to forever’. If that doesn’t give you chills, I don’t know what will. Read more about Daul Kim’s death here on Frockwriter. Sorry I haven’t been blogging for the last couple of days, I’ve been on crazy deadlines. Bear with me, I’ll be back soon.

I couldn’t believe the news this morning, it was only last week I was looking at her current Russh cover. I know this sounds horrible… but I’m thinking which model will be next :(
    Beauty is pain.

me too, last mag i read comes short of idolising her (russh). wow, it’s always model deaths that shock a lot, you think by looks and money and connections alone somehow outweighs the bad in life. very sad.

Even though most of us never knew her personally, she always had an essence that made us want to know her. Her images are beautiful and honest and interesting. She should be a(nother) reminder that fame/beauty/money/adoration is not going to make you whole, make you feel better, fill a void. People, try and find a sense of valuable self before you seek that lifestyle.

@ last anon – if you’re being sarcastic then what a redundant thing to say. Obviously it’s a tragedy whenever anybody commits suicide. I heard about one, so I wrote about it. That’s all there is to it.

Plus Isaac you have a fashion blog so you report on fashion things…. a fashion person commits suicide. I have just been through that crap like poor Daul, you can really look like you are leading the perfect life or a damn good one and still have serious problems on the inside and it’s nobody’s fault. RIP what a seemingly interesting, beautiful young woman, its sad that is how it has to be.

    Mother agent? Agent? Trusted friend???????

The world is accountable as is she.
Some one needed to hear her silent scream-Should have.

More protection less reap the rewards.

And why i am on it

Why is it most agents are fat? and yet they expect

    models to be thin?

I agree with the above, Most designers want models to be rake thin, this industry is hard. I don’t understand why no one asked if she was ok. My mother agent Ali McD is on to all of her models, she really is the most caring person I have ever meet. I really wish there were more agents like her. R.I.P Daul

this is a late comment but i watched her model diaries from the year she died and she said the more successful she became the more lonely she was, or something along those lines, I think there should be more support for models undergoing pressure and stress, like the death of isabelle caro from anorexia in november, agents should be more supportive to help their models and be more aware of signs of depression and eating disorders.
