Hey, gidday mates! Continuing my #notatourist travel series with Visa, let’s talk Instagram. Everyone coming to NYC knows you can get a great futuristic shot in Times Square; an amazing cityscape from the Empire State Building or the Top of the Rock; and a cracker of the Statue of Liberty from the Staten Island Ferry, but there are a ton of other locations that show up on native New Yorkers’ grams that you might not know how to access. I’ve got your back. These are the top nine spots to get the perfect NYC Instagram.
3. Perfectly symmetrical shot of the Williamsburg Bridge — walk a few blocks south on that same path and you’ll find yourself directly underneath the Williamsburg Bridge. Stand in the middle and shoot!
4. Flat Iron Building from 25th Street and 5th Ave — as classic as you can get, but make sure you hit it after 4 or 5pm in the afternoon, otherwise the high midday sun will back-light the building and ruin your shot!
5. DUMBO (Down Under The Manhattan Bridge Overpass) is a neighborhood in Brooklyn directly facing lower Manhattan. Visit at sunset — get off the F train at York Street, walk a couple of blocks towards the water and you can’t miss the bridge peeking out above the cobblestone streets.
6. Broome Street for the quintessential Soho shot — this one is best taken from halfway between Greene and Mercer on Broome Street, at about 6pm on a summer’s evening: The sun will be setting behind you and will light the buildings perfectly.
