Hey, gidday mates! Living in New York and never getting out of the city over the weekend is like living in London and never making it over to Continental Europe. It took me five years, but I’m finally getting into the swing of leaving Friday evening and getting back Sunday night. Over the last five weekends, I’ve made four big trips — Upstate twice, Pennsylvania, and Montauk.
A great backpack is an essential element of each trip, and that’s where backpacks.com comes in: They quite literally have something for everybody. Even somebody as fussy as this guy.
backpacks.com just launched in July of this year (I can’t believe nobody was taking advantage of that URL for this long), and they stock a combination of rugged rucksacks for the weekend warrior, fantastic scholastic bags for the student, high-tech packs for the guy who fancies all the bells and whistles, and extremely stylish backpacks for people who value aesthetics as much as — if not more than — functionality.
I chose the Knomo Beauchamp backpack from the site, it’s a slick nylon bag with leather accents, a ton of space to carry my camera, my laptop, and whatever else I need, plus three extra zipped storage spots on the outside. Best of all, it’s extremely lightweight (I’ve been carrying around a heavy leather backpack for the past year that destroys my fragile shoulders, so this has been a nice relief).
I took it with me up to Montauk over the weekend, and it traveled well.
