Hey, gidday mates! I’m currently lying on my bed fighting off waves of exhaustion after two huge days watching Lorde, Wu Tang, Flume, Chance The Rapper, and a bunch of others perform at Governors Ball this weekend. So many memories. On the first night the line for the ferry was so long that I ended up walking across the RFK Bridge to the 120-something’th Street with like 5000 teenagers who were blasting Chance and DJ Khaled and Lil Uzi Vert from their iPhones. Almost made me feel young again. ALMOST.
I shot these photos with my mate Jeremy Mitchell last week and the outfit says a lot about the style mood I’m seeing on the streets. It amazes me how extremely dressed up I and every other fashion guy was a couple of years ago, and how that’s been completely flipped on its head by the rise in skateboarding and streetwear inspired clothing. This is about as dressed up as I’d get right now — if I’m going to wear a suit, I’ll pair it with a loud Hawaiian shirt and a pair of sneakers. Super 90s.
To be honest it’s a relief. For me personally there’s something so much cooler about dressing down — how much easier is it to wear clothes that you can really really wear the sh*t out of and not worry about getting them dirty or ironing or anything else. Here’s hoping we stay casual for a while.
