This is the blog of Isaac Hindin-Miller: Fashion writer, DJ, relationship enthusiast, karaoke all-star, Gemini, Baha’i, expat Kiwi and quasi New Yorker.
I started this thing back in 2008 at the very beginning of the blogging boom. Back then, all I knew about independent online publishing was that it didn’t really exist in my home country of New Zealand, and that almost everything I read on the internet that had anything to do with fashion was a rehashed press release copied and pasted by a lazy editor. My M.O. was simple: Don’t be fluffy.
Within seven months of launching, I became the first New Zealander to be fired from a traditional print publishing job due to a blog post I’d written, I was involved in a legal dispute with my former employer (we settled out of court), and I took off for Paris to cover the men’s collections for the first time.
For the next two and a half years, I travelled on the men’s circuit every season from Milan to Paris to New York, before leaving New Zealand for good in June 2011. I landed in Singapore, shot this dance video, flew to Paris, stayed for a few months, then moved to New York on August the 8th, 2011, and I’ve lived here ever since.
Over the years Isaac Likes has morphed from its former focus on news, and now includes everything from personal style and travel, to anecdotes, interviews with notable personalities and relationship advice for anybody who asks.
Highlight posts include:
- That time I got to sit in the studio with Tyga as he recorded his third album Hotel California
- That time I got flown back home to New Zealand to star in a TV programme whose sole purpose was convincing a Sydney hipster that Wellington was (and is) a cool tourism destination
- That time that Katherine Lowe and I almost killed ourselves to make a flight from Paris to London
- That time I met Kanye West
- The Isaac Likes Guide To Breakups
