Hey, gidday mates! For my first shoot back on American soil, I decided to put together an outfit inspired by one of the archetypal characters in American cinema: The 80s high school geek. As you might imagine, when I was growing up and watching The Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles and all those other amazing films, it wasn’t the jock or the rebel or the richie that I related to, it was the kooky kid with the sense of humor who looked about 10 years younger than his classmates and who always seemed to put himself in the wrong place at the right time, resulting in hilarious consequences for all. His favorite style? Attention-grabbing. His favorite shoe color? RED. These Supergas are the ideal companion to my khaki, white and blue ensemble (and will look equally good if you choose to eschew the white jacket in favor of an easier khaki pants/pale blue button-down combo). Speaking of boy bands, they’re just one of the inspirations sassy label Lonely Hearts is claiming for their Winter 08 collection IOU NOTHING, launched tonight at MyHart, their flagship store. Boy bands, B Grade 80s flicks and Punk Princesses to be exact. Sitting in the show at Fashion Week I couldn’t stop marveling at the fresh, well executed and covetous looks that kept coming down the runway.
