Hey, gidday mates! No trip to Auckland is complete without a stop off at Gubb and Mackie — the historic naval tailoring brand that’s been making all my nautical dreams come true since Murray Crane took over in the early 2000s. Right now the store is having a love affair with handmade utilitarian workwear, meaning it’s the go-to if you’re after polished chore shirts or sturdy cotton drill sport-coats. As you’ll see here, I wanted to go as classic sailor as possible, and if there’s one thing a sailor loves, it’s fifty shades of blue, paired with some wide-leg khaki pants. Kiwis for the win! Aye aye, Captain!Click to Continue!
Hey, gidday mates! This one’s a bit of a throwback; I shot it in Auckland last month with Reagen Butler at the end of a long day shooting Tom Bull for the Barkers campaign from early morning to sundown. After Tom’s last shot Reagen and I ran up to O’Connell Street and took these ones just as golden hour was coming to a close. If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times — I’m incredibly impressed with what Barkers have done on the tailoring front*. If you’re a dude in New Zealand looking to buy a suit, you literally cannot beat Barkers on price and fit. And if you’re a dude anywhere else, you can’t beat a solid blue suit/white button-down/navy knit tie combo. Everyone’s a winner!Click to Continue!
Hey, gidday mates! Just a quickie on Friday morning before the long weekend begins. Full disclosure 1: I’ve posted this outfit at least once, maybe twice on the blog already, but it’s one of my favourites, and this one was shot in beautiful New Zealand, so I’m taking a free pass. Full disclosure 2: I slept in till 11:15am this morning! On a Friday! Very strange for me because I wake up at 7:00am every day of the week, so it must be the jet lag and readjusting to this NYC late summer heat. The morals of the story are: Alongside my leather jacket and my denim jacket, this Baracuta jacket is the best investment piece I’ve picked up in 2015; and… That’s all I’ve got. Everything’s still hazy. Enjoy your weekend, friends!Click to Continue!
My past 48 hours: On Wednesday morning I was on 15th Street in New York having breakfast with a Frenchman, a Polack and a Russian; by the afternoon I was sitting at the airport with Hasids and their bodyguards in New Jersey; that night I was surrounded by fellow Kiwis (including Dean O’Gorman of The Hobbit fame) at LAX; and the next morning I was flying into Auckland International Airport, picked up by my parents, home to my sister’s house for a quick shower, then straight back out the door to the top of Mt Eden then the Westhaven Marina to shoot Gucci with my mate James K Lowe.Click to Continue!
