Hey, gidday mates! I’m coming to you live from sunny Monterey, California, but the photos you’re seeing were shot last month in sunny Gulf Shores, Alabama. But since I’m out here in Cali with Jenny’s parents, it seemed appropriate to publish the second set of photos I shot with her dad, aka my future Father in-law, aka Mr Tom Albright.Click to Continue!
My Dad wore Clarks Desert Boots most days of the week as I was growing up so it took me a long time to come to terms with the idea of wearing them myself (he also rocked tapered stonewashed jeans and Michael Hainey-esque herringbone sportcoats which made this fool of a Took cringe – if only I’d known). Navy blue high top Chuck Taylors are still my go-to, but they’re not the most snow/rain/frozen-sidewalk friendly footwear; I spent February of 2011 navigating ankle-deep pools of murky slush in canvas shoes, and vowed I’d never do it again. I’m still trying to get my head around the seasonal change here in New York – Spring has arrived, but the temperatures are still in the negatives each day. Go figure. Every store in the city has transitioned into their S/S collections, but I’m not about to go buy some shorts when I can barely leave the house without a scarf and gloves. (That said, I did pick up J Crew’s seersucker suit jacket yesterday, but when in Rome.) With that in mind, these are some of my favourite looks right now to combat the cool weather, while still attemptingClick to Continue!

This has meant long days at home geeking out over menswear collections past (see here), and late nights out with the boys (see here). Today’s highlight was reading an excerpt from GQ Deputy Editor Michael Hainey’s new book After Visiting Friends, about his 10 year long investigation into his father’s untimely death. A number of signed copies were available on Mr Hainey’s personally curated Gilt sale (see here), and IClick to Continue!
It was negative 11 degrees in New York yesterday. Negative 11. Come on! I’m from a subtropical country. My body is not acclimatised to this level of cold. If you weren’t born somewhere with a real winter, you grew up reading words like, ‘bitter wind,’ and ‘frozen rivers,’ and ‘gangrenous, frostbitten toes,’ and not really understanding the brevity of such statements. Trust me when I tell you you’re not missing out on anything. Seeing as this is an outfit post, here’s the part where I tell you that the only upside to this situation is layering. You know the rest:Click to Continue!
