Hey, gidday mates! Long time no talk. My life has felt pretty hectic over the past few months, and my motivation to blog has dropped as a result. Sometimes when things are so up and down the last thing you feel like is writing about yourself on the internet. I’m sure you can relate. Or maybe you can’t, I dunno. Basically I’ve had a few huge life shifts which I don’t really wanna talk about and then a ton of travel in quick succession — Coachella, New Zealand for my Nana’s funeral, Anguilla to DJ a wedding — and then this past weekend Jenny and I deejayed 21 hours worth of parties in two days. Some would say I’m blessed to be stressed.Click to Continue!
Hey, gidday mates! I’m on this quest to collect as much streetwear as possible right now. It’s a hobby I haven’t indulged in since my university days (over 10 years ago!!!) when I used to scour eBay for all the Nike Vandals and throwback basketball jerseys I could find, and wear them with the skinniest jeans imaginable. It was a look. This time round I’m toning it down. A bit. This yellow Stussy hoodie is my latest acquisition, and I love it under a beautiful piece of outerwear like my trusty Zegna coat, and some tailored pants like these wide-wale cords by Gant Rugger, all finished off with these heavy-soled Dries Van Noten derbies. I guess it’s like an adult take on a teenage style. Which is fitting, because I’m kinda like an adult version of a teenager.Click to Continue!
Hey, gidday mates! What a week it’s been. I don’t normally talk politics here, but how can you not at a time like this? Coming from New Zealand, it’s hard to understand the American system with its lack of diversity, its lack of universal healthcare, its lobbyists, its insanely high rate of military funding, and its second amendment. And that’s not even mentioning the general consensus that, ‘It is what it is, and it’s not going to change.’ I strongly believe that one thing this campaign has shown us is that racism and prejudice are alive and well and living in America, and that misguided fear directed in a cunning way is an incredibly powerful weapon. Don’t understand these people? Hatred is the answer! The system is broken.Click to Continue!
Hey, gidday mates! Denny and I have a shared obsession with trawling through photos of our favorite style icons and attempting to recreate the outfits with clothing we already have in our wardrobes. For this one, we were inspired by the prince of teenage angst, Mr James Dean. If you’ve been following here for a while, you’ll know I did my own version of Rebel Without A Cause last year, so Denny recreated that one, and I went for the James-Dean-as-a-biker vibe. I’ve been wearing these shorter, baggier jeans a lot recently — it’s the 1950s by way of 2016.Click to Continue!
Hey, gidday mates! Another day, another trip to the Flatiron. This time, I was joined by my mate Denny Balmaceda, who suggested we dress in the Mod style. When I think of Mod, I imagine English gangs in suits with turtlenecks worn underneath trench coats or fishtail parkas, riding around on little Vespas. There were no Vespas to be found at such short notice, so we had to make do with what we had, which was suits, turtlenecks, coats and each other. Tally ho.Click to Continue!
