Hey, gidday mates! Ironically, I’m writing this post on the day that warmth and happiness have both left the city, leaving us in a frigid pit of fog and rain and despair, but last week when I shot these images the heat was here with full force and it left me no options but to get the legs out. For the record, I am not somebody who enjoys wearing shorts, but sometimes part of being an adult is doing these we don’t like because it’s the right thing to do. So here we are. For the occasion I wore my favourite cut-off grey crewneck sweatshirt with a white T-shirt poking through because every man should feel like Rocky at least once in his life. Hey, gidday mates! From 1950s college campuses to Sinatra and the Rat Pack, Original Penguin has been outfitting cool kids all over the world now for 60 years. My first dabble with the brand occurred 10 years ago in Los Angeles when I bought a couple of pairs of Penguin swimming shorts that were unlike anything I’d seen before back home — i.e. awesome 1960s style trunks as opposed to baggy below-the-knee boardies — and I’m pleased to say that the offering is still just as solid. I picked up this seersucker suit and polo combo to wear to the Tan Lines gig the brand put on as a 60 year birthday party last week in Williamsburg (good times all round) and I can honestly say that my CPW (compliments per wear) ratio has been absurdly high. The people have spoken, and the people love seersucker. Get in the game!Click to Continue!
Welcome to fabulous Las Vegas Nevada! I flew in late last night after battling the cold for five days at New York Fashion Week and now I’m out here enjoying the heat at PROJECT Las Vegas. It’s my first time in Vegas and my initial thoughts are: Every hotel has that ‘new car smell’ that you pay a dollar to spray at the carwash; it’s weird watching old ladies smoking inside while playing the slots — it reminds me of hanging out at rugby clubrooms when I was a 10 year old in Christchurch, New Zealand; and I hope nobody in my vicinity is re-mortgaging their houses or gambling away their kids’ college funds.Click to Continue!
To my American readers, this is a Holiday Gift Guide. To my New Zealand readers, it’s a Christmas Gift Guide. Everybody is welcome. World peace. Peruse it at will, and pick something up for your friends, your family, your partner-in-winter-hibernation, and most importantly, yourself, because as the saying goes, do unto others as you would do to you.Click to Continue!
Photos: Noah Emrich of NOVH fame Last Friday, Noah Emrich (of NOVH fame) and I made the trek up to the very plummy Upper East Side to shoot our first What’s in store of 2012 at the newly renovated Giorgio Armani boutique. It was a stressful couple of hours at first, as we tried to make lemonade from a bunch of beautiful clothing sized for the label’s typical clientele (wealthy older men). But we got there in the end and I learned a thing or two in the process. The moral of the story is: There’s a moral to everyClick to Continue!
