Hey, gidday mates. It was my birthday yesterday. I am officially 31 years old. [Insert profound life statement here.] No but seriously though, it’s been a good few months. I’m happy. My parents came to visit me for the first time since I’ve been living in the States and I got to show them around my city and introduce them to all my friends. They go home tomorrow. Tears will be shed. But as of today, life is good. It’s a sentimental week so allow me this one little moment: Thanks for following, you guys are my mates.Click to Continue!
Cast your minds back a couple of years to 2011 when the #menswear movement was at its peak, and this would have been the outfit that broke the internet. Not even joking. It has all the right elements: trim tailoring courtesy of Gant Rugger, a button-down oxford shirt with that good collar, the knit tie, cropped pants with the two inch cuffs and the Mark McNairy navy bucks. Times have no doubt changed since 2011 and the #menswear cognoscenti have moved onto brighter, shinier and more multi-layered pursuits, but a guy’s need for some solid casual tailoring remains the same. So for anybody wondering how to dress semi-smart at the office if a suit isn’t required, this wouldn’t be a bad place to start. (Glasses optional, but may raise your implied IQ.)Click to Continue!
My past 48 hours: On Wednesday morning I was on 15th Street in New York having breakfast with a Frenchman, a Polack and a Russian; by the afternoon I was sitting at the airport with Hasids and their bodyguards in New Jersey; that night I was surrounded by fellow Kiwis (including Dean O’Gorman of The Hobbit fame) at LAX; and the next morning I was flying into Auckland International Airport, picked up by my parents, home to my sister’s house for a quick shower, then straight back out the door to the top of Mt Eden then the Westhaven Marina to shoot Gucci with my mate James K Lowe.Click to Continue!
Like every good, patriotic New Zealander, I love sheep. I love sheep running around on a farm, I love sheep’s wool knitted into a sweater, I love sheep on my dinner plate, and I absolutely love a good shearling jacket.Click to Continue!
Last Monday, GQ invited me to the launch party for their Best New Menswear Designers’ collaboration with Gap, and I went along and did what any self-respecting human would do — tried on clothes while everybody else socialised and drank champagne and ate cheeseburger sliders.Click to Continue!
