Hey, gidday mates! Like I mentioned on Instagram earlier, Jenny Albright and I deejayed the Shop Style New York Fashion Week Men’s event on Tuesday night and it was a parrrrrty. I was dressed by John Varvatos for the occasion, and I chose my look based on one of my favourite movie characters of all time: Gabriel Byrne in The Usual Suspects. He plays a con-man turned Manhattan restauranteur, and his style is classic 90s formal — a dark suit with a white T-shirt tucked in underneath. You might have noticed from my recent Instagram posts that I’m tucking in nonstop at the moment, even with a pair of jeans and a T-shirt. Here are my reasons: It makes your legs look 10 times longer; it makes your waist look smaller and your upper body look bigger; and Johnny Depp was always doing it when he was young, so it must be a good call. Give it a go, I think you’ll be surprised by how good it looks right now.Click to Continue!
As one of the most successful streetstyle photographers on the international scene, Michael Dumler spends his days running around after models, editors and the well-dressed milieu (you probably know his work over at On Abbot Kinney). What you might not know is that he picked up his first camera just four years ago in an attempt to distract himself while he was getting sober in California: At his father’s behest, he took a photography course at UCLA, “Filled with Moms who wanted to take photos of their gardens,” then planted himself out the front of Abbot’s Habit on Abbot Kinney and began asking interesting-looking people if he could take their portraits. He bought his URL On Abbot Kinney soon after, and fast forward a couple of years, he now shoots for everybody from Vogue to Levi’s, GQ to Helmut Lang, and counts Gigi Hadid as a fan. He and I shoot together fairly regularly, so I figured it was time we sat down for a chat:Click to Continue!
Hey, gidday mates! I went to the J.Crew store on 5th Ave a couple of days ago to check out a panel discussion with some of New York’s leading young designers (Prabal Gurung, Joseph Altuzarra, Tabitha Simmons and the Public School boys included), and while I was there, I spotted a mannequin dressed in a blue blazer, pale blue oxford shirt and white jeans, and was like, ‘That’s my next outfit.’ It’s easy to forget just how good the classic menswear staples look, and how sharp a navy jacket looks paired with an oxford shirt, white jeans and a brown belt. Sometimes you’ve just gotta get back to basics. Check out the shoes too — they’re by To Boot New York, and they’re that perfect mix of suede and sneaker; not quite a chukka but not quite a designer hightop. Killer.Click to Continue!
Hey, gidday mates! Ironically, I’m writing this post on the day that warmth and happiness have both left the city, leaving us in a frigid pit of fog and rain and despair, but last week when I shot these images the heat was here with full force and it left me no options but to get the legs out. For the record, I am not somebody who enjoys wearing shorts, but sometimes part of being an adult is doing these we don’t like because it’s the right thing to do. So here we are. For the occasion I wore my favourite cut-off grey crewneck sweatshirt with a white T-shirt poking through because every man should feel like Rocky at least once in his life. Hey, bonjour mes amis! Je suis arrivé à Paris! I know I say this every season, but I’m always hit with a jolt of inexplicable joy the moment I touch down at Charles de Gaulle. It’s like the clouds open, the sun shines down, and a chorus of tiny angels sings, “Haaaaaalelujah!”Click to Continue!
