The sun rises in Paris at 8:30am this time of year, but yesterday morning Jenny and I were up a couple of hours earlier to go for a walk. Not just any walk, mind you, but a stroll around Le Marais with Sir Paul Smith. The powers that be had invited Jenny and myself on this walk to spend a bit of time with the 69 year old designer/entrepreneur, and to shoot some Instagram photos in the process — Sir Paul’s an active user — and when he bounded into the office with all the enthusiasm of Storm Jonas, I concluded that the singing and dancing party at the end of his Paris Fashion Week shows is simply his typical state of being.Click to Continue!
Hey, gidday mates! This morning, playing directly into Murphy’s hand, I spent a good 90 seconds telling Jenny how great it is that we haven’t experienced a shred of Parisian ‘tude this whole trip. Big mistake. 30 minutes later we were at Telescope; the hipster, minimalist, hand-poured, pretentious yet beautifully designed coffee shop near our apartment. Jenny bumped into something while holding her cup, dropped it, and watched in dismay as €4,50 went down the drain. We apologized profusely and went running for the nearest napkins, while the two guys working the counter said nothing and stared, speech bubbles practically appearing above their heads reading, “Stupid clumsy Americans.”Click to Continue!

I’m sitting in the departure lounge at Charles de Gaulle Airport about to catch an IcelandAir flight to Reykjavik, where I’ve got a quick 90 minute layover before I fly onto JFK, and into “one of the largest snowstorms in the history of this city,” or not.
