Like I mentioned the other day, there’s something of a criminal undertone in Milan that makes you feel like getting up to no good, so the Italian city was the perfect backdrop for Persol’s party to celebrate the launch of its new Film Noir collection. And it literally was a backdrop. Held at the Veneranda Biblioteca Ambrosiana (an ancient library near the Duomo), trench-coated detectives and femme fatales were projected on the brick walls as we walked in. Downstairs, eyewear installations were laid out like scenes from a Cluedo crime scene — revolvers and roses, typewritten drafts of ransom notes, liquor laced with poison.Click to Continue!

True Detective is Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson at their gritty, Southern best, and it’s just a rough-as-guts, dark, brilliantly written cop drama led by two men whose lives nobody would ever want. My predictions: 1. Rust slept with Martin’s wife, thus the fall out, and 2. The dream team is gonna get back together when Martin’s oldest daughter gets kidnapped by the Yellow King. Between bites of blue cheese on brown bread, we were walked through a whole raft of summer sunglass options – from cool new Lennon-lookalike Raybans to classic Persols; 90s-esque uber-sport Pradas to big, round Audrey Hepburn/Olsen sister styles by Burberry. Pradas aside, my favourites were the Ray Bans and the Persols. (So good that heritage brands like Persol and Moscot are becoming available here in New Zealand.) The cheese was also a winner.
