Y’all already know about my Richard Haines fandom, which miraculously increased yesterday morning when I received Todd Selby’s email blast announcing that he’d shot the illustrator, Prada-collaborator and Dad-of-one at his house in Brooklyn. Why? Because it gave me a chance to creep him in his natural habitat (despite the fact that Richard and I frequently eat chicken sandwiches together, he has never actually allowed me into his home; I can’t imagine why). As you’d expect, there’s art galore, an Ikea Malm bed (the sleeping furniture of choice for all good Brooklynites), and a plethora of coloured pencils, inkwells andClick to Continue!
Photos: The Selby Back in January of ’09 at my first Paris Fashion Week, I remember walking into the shows on day one and getting utterly starstruck. But it wasn’t by the celebrities or the designers, it was by the menswear editors, writers and bloggers – Josh Peskowitz, Scott Schuman, Tim Blanks, Suzy Menkes, Olivier Zahm and the rest. And then there was the GQ team, who I recognised from their Rules videos – Jim Moore, Adam Rapoport and Michael Hainey. When those guys walked into a room, their presence was felt (it didn’t hurt that all three clock inClick to Continue!
Tacos are my culinary crutch. I can’t walk past a Mexican takeout joint without picking one up – and here in New York it’s a rare neighbourhood that doesn’t have two or three on every other street. When you live in a place like New Zealand you’re so far away from the rest of the planet, so most of your knowledge of the world at large comes from movies, TV shows, magazines, newspapers and the internet. When I think of tacos in New York, the first thing that comes to mind is Rockaway Taco thanks to The Selby‘s short filmClick to Continue!
Photos: The Selby Remember when Todd Selby went to New Zealand earlier in the year to speak at The Department Store and shoot the spaces of Auckland’s hipster elite? The jewel in the Aotearoa crown has just appeared on his blog – la maison de Karen Inderbitzen Waller et Delphine Avril Planqueel. I’ve had the pleasure of going to their house on a number of occasions, and it is incredible. If you ever get the chance, I’d recommend it just for the Crown Lynn collection, the wall-to-wall library of Vogue Italias or the pet rabbit Petit Gris. But there’s soClick to Continue!
Photos: The Selby It should come as no surprise that interior designer, Karen Walker-collaborator and proprietor of online knick knacks store Everyday Needs Katie Lockhart has an exceptionally cool house. Lockhart’s living quarters were shot by Todd Selby when he was in town, which is awesome for two reasons: no house is more fascinating than an interior designer’s house; and it answered the question that has been bugging me for quite some time – yes, Katie Lockhart does indeed place vases, birds’ nests and tomatoes in simple yet genius arrangements on her kitchen shelves, just like in the editorials sheClick to Continue!
