Hey, gidday mates! What was a mild winter is now turning into a diabolically cold and wet spring, with the occasional sunny day to brighten things up. So it seems a little incongruous to be pushing warm-weather-clothing in the current climate, but surely we’re only a week or two away from balmier days. SURELY. To wit, I got my hands on these Missoni pieces last week, and they’re a far cry from what I’ve been wearing for the past few months (overcoat and black jeans or black leather jacket and stonewash jeans). The pants are significantly wider and higher waisted than anything I usually wear, and the jacket hits above the hips in that perfect 1950s crop. This stuff is elegant as all hell, but works perfectly with a white T-shirt and white socks and my classic Dr Martens. Prime example of this East Villager-by-way-of-New Zealand’s take on Italian luxury. Va bene?Click to Continue!
Hey, gidday mates! I’m coming to you live from Milan, Italy, it’s a crisp winter’s day, the sun is shining, Jenny’s here with me, Richard Biedul just flew into town, Sonny Vandevelde is staying in the room next to mine, the shows start tomorrow, and I’m extremely excited for the next two weeks of adventures!Click to Continue!
Hey, gidday mates! If you’ve been reading Isaac Likes for a long time, you’ll know that one of the most exciting aspects of my old life in New Zealand was that every two or so months I’d pack up and travel across the world to some far-flung location. Even when I was depressed at home and feeling like I was losing opportunities by being so far away from the action, I always had a ticket in my back pocket which gave me something to look forward to.Click to Continue!
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know I spend a lot of time hanging out and taking photos by the East River. Growing up in New Zealand I was always a stone’s throw away from a beach, so this is as close as I can get to feeling like home away from home in the big city. It’s beautiful during the day, but at nighttime in the summer the sun setting on the West side casts a golden purple hue over the sky, the water changes colour to a dark, moody green, and you can smell the salty air as the tug boats roll by. And that’s how it was last night when I shot these photos with the talented Carin Backoff.Click to Continue!
Hey, gidday mates! I shot this one on the East River on Tuesday morning right before I had to run to the airport to catch my flight to Los Angeles. If the denim-on-denim combo looks familiar, it’s because I have probably blogged this outfit about seventeen thousand times, and that would be because it’s my go-to whenever I’m stressed and I need something easy and familiar that works for all occasions (within reason): Meetings, check. Travel, check. Weddings, ehhhh hard to say. Denim on denim can also handle some big colour, like these Supergas, which have been getting a lot of play this summer with neutrals like my white jeans and khakis. The moral of the story is: 1. Get a uniform! It helps when you’re feeling the heat; and 2. Don’t be afraid to introduce colour into your wardrobe! It’s more fun that way!!!Click to Continue!
